Indentifying features Body and sail dorsal spotted with dark and light blue spots,
body spots in vertical rows, bright colors in life, brighter than those of the Atlantic species.
Maximum weight 120 kg (260 lb). Very high dorsal fin, highest in centre, tail veed,
very long pelvic fins with membrane, prominent single lateral line, slender straight lower jaw,
long slender bill.

Indentifying features The Manta Ray is a slow-swimming graceful giant that will often allow
an approach so close close that the Manta may be touched – and, on occasions, even ridden.
The short whip of the tail carries no spine; and despite its bulk, this Ray offers no hazard to man.
The great sharply-pointed batlike “wings” beat in a slow, flowing rhythm as these great animal
move smoothly and slowly along, feeding as they swim

Dugong dugon

Indentifying features Adult dugongs weigh up to about 400 kg and may reach 3 m. in length.
The body is grey-bronze, somewhat lighter undermeath than above. Calves tend to be paler than adult.
The dugong’s eyes is set at the side of its headIts underwater vision is probably equivalent to that
of a diver with a face mask. The ear is a small opening behind the eye. Hearing is acute and
experienced dugong hunters approach their quarry as quietly as possible.
